Troubleshooting
When it doesn't hear, doesn't speak, or hears itself.
Run /var/tmp/sidekick/listen --list-devices in a terminal. It lists microphones and marks the default. If the default is a virtual or aggregate device, add --device "MacBook Pro" (any part of the name) to the listener's arguments in hooks/register.tsx. Then /var/tmp/sidekick/listen --max 8 and speak: you should see partial: lines.
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, and → Speech Recognition: enable your terminal app. If it isn't listed, run tccutil reset Microphone <bundle id> for your terminal, quit it fully, reopen, and run /sidekick talk again.
swiftc needs the Xcode Command Line Tools: xcode-select --install. Then delete /var/tmp/sidekick and run /sidekick talk; the toast shows the compiler's first error if it fails again.
That is echo reaching the microphone and slipping past the filter. It happens when a reply is made of words the sidekick had not said in its last three utterances, which is rare. Say "stop", then /sidekick mute to confirm the loop ends. If it repeats, open an issue with the reply text; the filter compares words and can learn from the case.
No natural voice is installed. /sidekick voices install, then download Ava (Premium) or Tom (Enhanced). See Voices.
A pane the mod opens on its own waits for a terminal at least 144 columns wide. Run /sidekick yourself; a pane you ask for opens at any width.
Three silent rounds end talk mode. /sidekick talk resumes.
/plugin → Installed should list sidekick. In a --plugin-dir session a dim line names a module that failed to load. claude --debug writes the reason to the debug log.
