Sidekick

Install

Requirements and the two commands.

Requirements

  • Claude Code 2.1.287 or later. Check with claude --version. Mods run in the terminal and in the Desktop app's Code tab.
  • macOS for voice. Speech out uses the system voices; speech in uses Apple's speech recognition.
  • Xcode Command Line Tools, for swiftc. The listener is compiled once on first use. Install with xcode-select --install if you don't have them.

Install

claude plugin marketplace add Redskull-127/sidekick
claude plugin install sidekick@meer-mods

Start a session, or run /reload-plugins in one that is open. /plugin lists it under Installed.

For one session only

git clone https://github.com/Redskull-127/sidekick
claude --plugin-dir ./sidekick

First run

Pick a sidekick

/sidekick use Rudy. Two ship: Ada, a calm staff engineer, and Rudy, a blunt senior dev. A chime confirms.

Say hello by typing

Ask anything. The reply is headed 🦊 Rudy, and its first sentence is spoken.

Turn on talk mode

/sidekick talk. The first time, macOS asks to allow your terminal to use the microphone and speech recognition; allow both. The listener compiles once, about twenty seconds.

Get the natural voices

The default macOS voices sound robotic. /sidekick voices install opens the pane where you download Ava (Premium) and Tom (Enhanced). Sidekicks switch to them on their own. See Voices.

Check what it does before you trust it

Any mod runs with your permissions. List what this one hooks and calls without running it:

claude plugin validate ./sidekick

The hooks: and calls: lines are the whole story, and What it runs and sends explains each.
